SCHOOL SATISFACTION SURVEY 2025 – THANK YOU
The 2025 Families School Satisfaction Survey has closed
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Families School Satisfaction Survey 2025. Your feedback is very important to help us improve our schools and our practice.
The survey is now closed, and schools will receive summaries of the results in Term 4. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to anyone.
Next term there is a staff change for our grade 5/6 class. Mr A will be returning for the term working Fridays and Mrs Rime will be on class from Monday to Thursday. The change has come about as we look at the learning needs within our classes and Mrs Clark will be taking on a leadership role working closely with our middle primary students to ensure we are offering the very best opportunities for our students to enhance their learning. Mrs Clark will be working closely with the classroom teachers and the students of those classes. If you have any questions please ask.
We are committed to helping every student become a confident, capable reader. That’s why we use a structured and evidence-based approach to teaching literacy, built around what’s known as the Big Six.
The Big Six are the essential foundations of literacy. They work together to support students as they move from learning to read, to reading to learn—and beyond. These six areas are taught explicitly and in a clear, sequenced way to ensure all students, no matter their starting point, can grow and succeed.
What are the Big Six?
1. Oral Language – The ability to speak, listen, and understand the sounds we use when we talk.
2. Phonological Awareness – Recognising the sounds in our speech.
3. Phonics – Understanding how letters and sounds work together.
4. Vocabulary – Knowing and using a wide range of words.
5. Fluency – understanding the meaning of words and sentences as they are being read.
6. Comprehension – using the other five skills to understand what is being read.
The Big Six are not just skills for early readers or young students. They continue to be important throughout your child’s education.
How can families support literacy at home?
You play an important role in your child’s literacy development. Talking with your child, reading together, playing word games, and asking questions about stories are all powerful ways to support what your child is learning at school.
If you’d like to know more about how the Big Six are taught in our classrooms or how to support your child’s literacy at home, please contact your child’s teacher.
Together, we can help every student thrive as a reader, writer, and thinker.
As we approach the end of Term 3 and head into the school holidays, it is important for us to place a strong emphasis on online safety.
While gaming can be a beneficial activity, enhancing your child’s coordination, problem-solving, and multitasking skills, it is equally important to understand potential risks and how to ensure your child's safety. The popular online game platform Roblox has recently been in the media spotlight due to a teen gamer reporting explicit predatory behaviour while playing the game. This is just one example; this behaviour is widespread among many online platforms.

YEAR 3-4 AND 5-6 BADMINTON EXCURSION
On Thursday 11th of September, our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Badminton superstars travelled to the South Hobart Badminton Centre to put their badminton skills to the test in mini tournaments!
We would like to thank Coach Lasse for organising our tournaments. Thank you to Mrs Watson, Mrs Bush, Mr. Cross, Mrs Duncombe, and Mrs Stock for assisting all our badminton players at the centre!
If you and your family are interested in more badminton opportunities, the badminton centre runs different tournaments and programs throughout the year and offers casual bookings as well.

PREP-1 AND YEAR 1-2 AFL HPE EXCURSION TO TYNWALD OVAL
We have some up-and-coming AFL and AFLW superstars right here at Molesworth! On Thursday, the 18th of September, the P/1 and 1/2 classes travelled to Tynwald Oval to participate in a range of AFL activities and modified games to put the skills they have been practising in PE to the test! We explored the club rooms, discussed the area and New Norfolk Eagles, which is the local community football club. We had quite a few students share that they already play there outside of school!
Thank you to Mrs Gilbert, Mrs Maw, Mrs Watson, Mr Wade, Mrs Cowley, and Mrs Stock for helping support all our students on the excursion and assisting with packing up!
A MASSIVE thank you to Mr Rogers for his AFL knowledge and expertise. Mr Rogers has been assisting the older classes in PE with key coaching tips on handballing, kicking, and bouncing, and has also assisted Miss Gourlay in the planning and setting up the activities to make our P/1 and 1/2 AFL excursion a great success!
